Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS)
This award is aimed at candidates who:
- have achieved the Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) award
- or
- are practising teachers/trainers, who can demonstrate continuing professional development (CPD)
- or
- want to develop their skills in delivering teaching/training
- or
- are seeking career progression within teaching/training
The award is suitable for those who work, or want to work, as:
- teachers in adult and community education, providing they are qualified/experienced in the subject they intend to teach. The decision as to what constitutes appropriate entry qualifications/experience is at the discretion of the centre
- teachers/trainers in the voluntary sector
- training personnel in commerce, industry, the public sector or HM Forces
- technicians and support staff in further and adult education
The award is designed to contribute towards the skills, knowledge and understanding for the Further Education National Training Organisation (FENTO) standards.
The CTLLS Certificate is designed to enable a wide range of candidates to undertake teaching and learning tasks relevant to their situation. The Certificate consists of around 120 hours of attendance, including study, experience and practice in demonstrating a range of teaching and learning skills, with the necessary underpinning knowledge and reflective practice.
The CTLLS is designed to develop candidates' abilities to:
- identify learners' needs, backgrounds and aspirations
- define basic principles of teaching & learning in relation to teaching/training
- demonstrate, in their planning, delivery and evaluation, regard for equal opportunities and health and safety legislation
- develop their skills in devising programmes and schemes of work
